Military Veterans Benefits
AVA Cremations is honored to assist families with understanding and accessing VA burial benefits available at a VA National Cemetery. We work closely with families to help navigate the Veterans Affairs process during a difficult time, ensuring eligible veterans receive the dignified recognition they deserve while easing the financial burden on loved ones.
Through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, eligible veterans may receive burial space at a VA National Cemetery, with burial accommodations often available for a spouse as well. The VA provides a standard vault for both the veteran and eligible spouse when interment occurs in a national cemetery. Additionally, the VA furnishes a grave marker or headstone for the veteran, regardless of cemetery location.

Other VA burial benefits include the opening and closing of the grave, access to a committal shelter for funeral or memorial services, and disinterment services when relocation to a national cemetery is requested. Eligible veterans are also entitled to a burial flag and the playing of Taps, honoring their service and sacrifice.

To qualify for VA burial benefits, veterans must have received an honorable discharge, be able to provide a DD-214, and must not have been convicted of capital crimes. Members of the Reserves or National Guard may require additional documentation or permissions to establish eligibility.

In some cases, families may also be eligible for additional VA monetary death benefits, depending on service history and circumstances. AVA Cremations is available to help guide families through these options and coordinate with the VA as needed.
